New Year New Resolutions

The beginning of a new year is a great time to 'start over'. It is a time to wipe the slate clean, put away the holiday candy, and start fresh with new goals and new resolutions. One of the biggest resolutions for many is to lose weight. This year, I encourage you to try something different. Instead of putting a number on the scale, or telling yourself you are going to workout out every day for at least two hours, try to plan in terms of being successful and consistent with your resolution. I've seen my share of ladies getting burned out with exercise because they did too much too fast. The goal is to be consistent and make exercise a habit. Thirty minutes of movement 4-5 days a week is better than 2 hours of movement two days a week.... and, easier to manage. Also try to vary your routine. If you love to walk on the treadmill do what you love most of the time, but try to shake it up with something different some of the time.... even if it is 5 minutes. Try something new...maybe a zumba, yoga, or pilates class. You never know... you might find something new that you like!

Success Story of the Day!!!

I love seeing a client's eyes light up when she sees body measurements showing success with losing weight and inches. It's so hard for someone to gauge their success; we 'see' ourselves every day, so even though clothing might feel looser, we sleep better, feel a little lighter, it is incredibly affirming to see the actual numbers and know we are succeeding on our fitness journey.
I have a client I have been training for about 3 months. We did measurements when she first came in to start her personal training program. We work together about twice a week for 30 minutes and she comes in on her own time two other times during the week for 30-60 minutes. She is not starving herself; she is not eating perfect; she is not in the gym every day for hours; and she does not weigh herself every day. She comes in, does the work, and hopes for the best. Some days are good, and she comes in with a smile; other days not so much, and she comes in with the crinkle between her eyebrows that I know means she is not having a good day. During times of feeling discouraged, times when life gets in the way - she keeps showing up and putting one foot in front of the other.
I'm proud to say that she has lost almost 10 lbs in the past 3 months, and has lost about 7 inches all over. And, she did it the right way, the healthy way, the realistic way - by showing up and doing the work. I'm excited to see what she will accomplish over the next few months. Go Alicia!!!
